For patients who are looking for a solution to their missing teeth, dentures are an excellent option. Dentures are intended to replace multiple teeth in a row or the entire top and/or bottom row of teeth. While dental implants may be a solution for clients with high bone density, dentures will work for almost any client, as they are custom-made to rest on the gums and existing bone structure.

Dentures are a non-surgical option that can be an affordable way to replace missing teeth. The typical process to receive custom-fit dentures would be to visit your dentist at Fairbanks Family Dental Care, to begin to take impressions of your mouth. Once the impressions of gums and existing teeth are clear and precise, your dentist will allow them to dry thoroughly and then will place them into a dental articulator. The articulator is a machine that mimics the natural workings of the mouth to ensure that the dentures are correctly spaced and will fit properly in your mouth. The impressions are paired with any existing dental x-rays and lined with a special wax to show where the teeth are to be placed. Once the placement is correct, the wax will be replaced with dental acrylic, which is what the patient will use to hold the dentures in place against their gums. The two materials that dentures are made from are:

  • Acrylic Resin – This resin is white in color and is specially made to look very similar to natural teeth. Acrylic resin dentures are an excellent option, as they are light in weight, look similar to natural teeth, and tend to be less expensive.
  • Porcelain –  Porcelain is a very durable material that also mimics the natural teeth. Porcelain dentures are a more durable option than acrylic resin, but are best used as full teeth replacements. If there are any remaining teeth, the porcelain can rub against the existing teeth and can cause further damage to the healthy teeth. Porcelain is durable, but can be broken if dropped onto a hard surface.

Ninety percent of people who have experienced tooth loss wear dentures (American College of Psothodontists, 2017). At Fairbanks Family Dental Care, patients will be fitted with custom-made, precise dentures that are made to last. Dentures are not only made to help replace missing teeth, but can also correct speech and proper mouth function. The Dentures offered by Fairbanks Family Dental are a painless, long-lasting solution to missing teeth and can create a beautiful, natural-looking smile.
